Introduction

A global masterpiece and winner of several awards, including the Silver Lion at 14th Venice. Restored by the Film Foundation (chaired by Martin Scorsese) and Kadokawa under the supervision of cinematographer Masahiro Miyajima.

With the arrival of the war, potter Genjuro hopes for bumper business, while his brother Tobei longs for success as a samurai and, his wife wants modest happiness for the family, but their fate is at the mercy of the war time. Adaptation of Akinari Ueda's "Ugetsu Monogatari" by the best crew and cast. Many scenes in this global masterpiece influenced filmmakers around the world.

Director	Kenji Mizoguchi Mizoguchi was born in Tokyo in 1898. Following his debut in 1923, he was noted for Kaminingyo Haru no Sasayaki (1926). After Osaka Elegy and Sisters of the Gion (1936), he won the International Award for The Life of Oharu (1952), the Silver Lion for Ugetsu Monogatari (1953), and Sansho Dayu (1954) at the Venice Film Festival, making his name known globally. He died suddenly in 1956 at the age of 58.

* The Tokyo Metropolitan Government's Ordiance for Healthy Youth Development prohibits individuals under age of 18 from being at theaters from 23:00 to 4:00. This also applies when these individuals are accompanied by a parent or guardian.

* Screenings at TIFF are not eligible for Cinemileage (TOHO CINEMAS mileage).

* TIFF tickets are not eligible for parking services at any of the venues.
