Introduction
Gye-chun, a veteran diver on Jeju Island, lives happily with her granddaughter Hye-ji until the girl disappears. Gye-chun desperately looks for her, but… 12 years later, Hye-ji suddenly comes home, remaining mum about what happened. Gye-chun is confused but happy to live with her again. Canola is a heartwarming drama with a mystery, starring Youn Yuh-jung from The Housemaid and Kim Go-eun from Coin Locker Girl. Min-ho, of popular group SHINee, and Breathless director Yang Ik-joon also appear. Chang is a rising Korean director, whose previous film The Target screened at Cannes.

Gae-chun, the legendary queen of female diver in a town on Jeju Island, and her granddaughter Hae-ji live peacefully, looking after each other. One day, Gae-chun lost her beloved only granddaughter due to an accident. Gae-chun does everything she can to find Hae-ji. After 12 years, Gae-chun finally reunites with Hae-ji. However, there follows a story that Gae-chun does not want to believe is followed. Can their life together be restored to how it was 12 years ago?

[Director's Message]
We hope the audience will feel empathy rather than be persuaded. We hope the audience will be healed rather than educated. I greatly appreciate that Canola is invited to the Asian Future section of the 29th Tokyo International Film Festival.
