Sakamoto made his directing debut in 1989 with Knock out (Dotsuitarunen) starring Hidekazu Akai. It won many awards, including the Directors Guild of Japan New Directors Award. In 2000, he won the Japan Academy’s Best Director Prize for Face starring Naomi Fujiyama. His latest film Ernesto is based on a little-known true story of a Japanese Bolivian who participated in Che Guevara's guerrilla army. |
