Introduction
Two years after her fiancé’s death, Hiroko Watanabe tries to relieve her grief by mailing him a letter. It is delivered to a young woman in his hometown who has her fiancé’s name, Itsuki Fujii. Hiroko is surprised to receive a reply, which begins a fascinating correspondence between the two women.

Director Shunji Iwai

Born in 1963, Shunji Iwai began his directing career in 1988 with commercials, music videos, and TV dramas. His cinematic style and vision came to be known as the “Iwai Aesthetic”. In 1995, he scored a huge hit across Asia with Love Letter. Other major works include Fireworks, Should We See It from the Side or the Bottom? (Uchiage Hanabi, Shita kara Miruka? Yoko kara Miruka?) (1993), Swallowtail Butterfly (1996), April Story (Shigatsu Monogatari) (1998), All About Lily Chou-Chou (2001), Hana and Alice (2004), Vampire (2012), and The Case of Hana & Alice (2015). His latest work is A Bride for Rip Van Winkle (2016).
