Introduction

Umi’s hearing is so sensitive that even notes played slightly out-of-tune give her a headache. Violinist Yuko arrives from Tokyo to play a concert on Umi’s small island near Okinawa, and gradually befriends the girl. Both struggle with friendships and family relationships, but are brought together by music. Director Kaze Shindo, acclaimed for her debut LOVE/JUICE (2000), returns after 11 years with this drama, starring brilliant child actor Aoi Ito and Japan Academy Prize-winning actress Sakura Ando (100 Yen Love), which movingly captures island life and the power of music. Featuring Tsuneo Fukuhara’s song “Shima Jima Kaisha”.

Director	Kaze Shindo While at the Japan Institute of the Moving Image, Kaze Shindo made her TV-directing debut. After working as an assistant director for Yuji Nakae and Kaneto Shindo (her grandfather), she made her feature debut with LOVE/JUICE (2000), which won the New Director Award at Berlin, among many other prizes. She directed Princess in an Iron Helmet (2006), then served as director’s assistant on Kaneto Shindo’s 23rd TIFF Special Jury Prize-winning Postcard (2010).

* The Tokyo Metropolitan Government's Ordiance for Healthy Youth Development prohibits individuals under age of 18 from being at theaters from 23:00 to 4:00. This also applies when these individuals are accompanied by a parent or guardian.

* Screenings at TIFF are not eligible for Cinemileage (TOHO CINEMAS mileage).

* TIFF tickets are not eligible for parking services at any of the venues.
