  • Film Treasures from UCLA Film & Television Archive
    UCLA Film & Television Archive will bring to Tokyo the restored My Darling Clementine (1946) by John Ford and other American classics dating from the silent era up to the 1980s.

    Mostly new works by promising rookies to seasoned pros are brought together to compete for the prize. Enjoy a view of "the world today".
  • Asian Future
    Up-and-coming directors from Asia will compete each other. Please stay for talk after the screening!
  • Japanese Cinema Splash
    This section will showcase unique, exceptionally creative and challenging independent Japanese films by various directors from an amazing rookie to a matured talent, making a splash on the world stage.
  • Special Screenings
    Many exciting films are due for release in the coming months. The Special Screenings section presents many of these films before their theatrical release in Japan.
  • World Focus
    From amongst award winners at major international film festivals, and latest works by great masters as well as by household names at TIFF, films which are not scheduled to be released in Japan as of August 31 are selected.
  • Japanese Classics
    Masterpieces that have illuminated Japanese film history have been restored with the latest digital cinema technologies. The early Showa period's rare silent films will be screened at the Kabukiza Theatre.
  • CROSSCUT ASIA #03: Colorful Indonesia
    10 films from Indonesia, where new generation and female directors are thriving, will be shown in this year's 3rd series.
  • Asian Three-Fold Mirror 2016: Reflections
    "The Asian Three-Fold Mirror" project brings together three talented directors to co-create an omnibus film with a common theme.
  • The World of Mamoru Hosoda
    The world's first major feature of Mamoru Hosoda follows the trajectory of his creativity over the last 20 years as he continues to lead the Japanese film industry with feature animations.
  • Japan Now
    The huge potential and drive of Japanese films of today are showcased toward Japan and abroad. Shunji Iwai, internationally acclaimed as the "Iwai Aesthetic" for his works, will be featured in "Director in Focus".
  • Youth TIFF Teens
    Starred by youths but both youths and adults can enjoy. Encounter profound human dramas that will help you move forward.
  • Youth TIFF Children
    "TIFF-Children" is a program for ages around 1 to 12. Along with the KINEKO International Children's Film Festival, films from all over the world will be shown at Futako Tamagawa.
